Privacy policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026. This policy explains which personal data World Time Now processes, why, and what rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible

The data controller for this website is Reinout Vandepitte, reachable at reinout@reinoutvandepitte.com. You can contact this address for any question about this policy or about your personal data.

2. The short version

The clock, the date, the timezone detection and the city lookup all run inside your browser. This website does not operate a user database, does not require an account, and does not store your searches. The only third party that can receive personal data is Google, through the advertising that funds the site — and only after you have accepted advertising cookies.

3. Data processed when you visit

a. Technical connection data

Like every website, ours is delivered by a hosting provider that logs technical request data (IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp) for security and to keep the service running. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating a secure, functioning website. These server logs are kept for a short period by the hosting provider and are not used to profile visitors.

b. Timezone and language

Your browser exposes your timezone and preferred language to the page. These values are read and used in your browser only. They are never transmitted to us and never stored.

c. Device location (only on request)

If you press "Use my location", your browser asks for your consent and then gives the page your approximate coordinates. Those coordinates are compared against a city list bundled with the page and are then discarded. They are not sent to any server and not stored. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time in your browser's site settings.

d. Place searches

The search box filters a list that is already downloaded with the page. What you type never leaves your device.

e. Cookie choice

Your accept-or-reject decision is stored in your browser's local storage so you are not asked again on every visit. This value stays on your device.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site is financed by advertising delivered through Google AdSense. When — and only when — you accept advertising cookies, Google may place cookies or similar identifiers on your device and process personal data such as your IP address, device information and interaction with ads, in order to serve and measure advertising. Google acts as an independent controller for that processing.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive as implemented in national law). Before you accept, Google Consent Mode is initialised with all advertising and analytics storage set to denied, and the AdSense script is not loaded at all. If you reject, non-personalised handling applies and the advertising script stays unloaded.

Google may transfer data outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses. More information is available in Google's policy on how it uses data from sites that use its services.

5. No analytics or tracking

This website runs no analytics suite, no tracking pixels, no social media widgets and no fingerprinting. If that ever changes, this policy and the cookie banner will be updated before the change goes live.

6. Retention

  • Timezone, language and coordinates: not stored.
  • Search input: not stored.
  • Cookie choice: kept in your browser until you clear it or change it.
  • Hosting server logs: short-term, as set by the hosting provider.
  • Emails you send: kept as long as needed to handle your question.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that took place before withdrawal. Because this site keeps no visitor database, the practical way to exercise most of these rights is to contact Google for advertising data, and to email us at reinout@reinoutvandepitte.com for anything we hold.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Belgium this is the Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels, gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be.

8. Children

This site is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. No data is knowingly collected from children.

9. Changes to this policy

Any material change will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. If the change concerns cookies or consent, the banner will be shown again.
